Imaginary Holiday Party to Benefit Teen Feed

tigholiday2k10_lg1

It’s the time of year that calls for pine-scented candles and bejeweled reindeer sweaters. What a better way to ring in the holidays than with the The Imaginary Holiday Office Party!

On Thursday, December 16, Three Imaginary Girls will deck out the Columbia City Theater in holiday cheer with a little help from our friends: The Tripwires, The Young Evils, Jose Bold {John Osebold of “AWESOME” fame} and special guest John Vanderslice! In the Bourbon Bar, DJ Greg Vandy will be supplying the best in soul and roots starting at 7pm. And it wouldn’t be an imaginary holiday party without our very own Indie Rock Santa!

This year a very special guest Santa will take the throne, with photographess extraordinaire Laura Musselman at the ready to take your photo from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. With holiday party staple John Roderick {Long Winters} out of town for a super exciting recording opportunity in New York City, we’ve arranged for none other than the legendary John Vanderslice to ride his merry sleigh to Seattle! He’ll be accepting the velveteen red coat and hat in John’s unfortunate absence.

And it gets even better — the best part about the night is that all proceeds will benefit Teen Feed, a Seattle non-profit who helps homeless youth as they meet their future off the streets. Teen Feed runs a free dinner program for youth ages 13-25, seven nights a week — and we couldn’t be more excited to have the opportunity to help support their efforts! In addition to purchasing a ticket to the event, party attendees can make donations in the form of cash, cheques, and packages of white tube socks (yes, white tube socks) the night of the event.

Tickets to the event are limited and will be for sale via Brown Paper Tickets on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 10a. This is a 21+ event / $15 adv / doors at 7pm. This year’s Office Party will rival any corporate winter holiday party at a nearby hotel bar that you might have on your schedule — we would be honored to meet you under the mistletoe for an evening of the finest cup o’ cheer!

Extra thanks to Columbia City Theater, The Stranger, and poster designer Killorn O’Neill for all their help in the assembly and promotion of this event!

Holiday Gifts Needed For Homeless Youth

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Holiday Gifts Needed For Homeless Youth

Seattle, Washington – November 15, 2010 – Teen Feed, a nonprofit serving homeless youth in Seattle’s University District, is seeking donations of holiday gifts for its annual Holiday Party for homeless youth.  Teen Feed hosts the party along with other agencies of the University District Service Providers Alliance.  Last year, about 150 homeless and at-risk youth attended the event.

With youth unemployment at about 20 percent, more and more youth are living on the street.  Teen Feed runs a free dinner program for youth ages 13-25.  Approximately 40 to 70 youth show up each night, 365 nights a year.

Youth look forward to the Holiday Party each year.  For many, this is the closest thing to a family holiday celebration they will have.  There is music, decorations, food, and a gift for each and every person who shows up.  This only happens, however, if committed individuals and groups donate gifts for the youth.

“There are two ways to donate gifts for the Holiday Party,” says Megan Gibbard, Executive Director of Teen Feed.  “First, people can simply give items that are requested and needed all the time.”  Examples are socks, sleeping bags, gloves, hats, scarves, backpacks, and hooded sweatshirts.  All gifts should be new and $40 or less.  Any gifts that go unclaimed at the Holiday Party will be distributed to local agencies to meet youth needs throughout the year.

“If you would like to get more personally involved with gift giving, we have a Secret Santa program where you can adopt a youth’s individual holiday wish list,” says Gibbard.  If you are interested in this option, please contact the Secret Santa coordinator at secretsanta@teenfeed.org or call Colin Knight at 206.554.9480.

If you are interested in donating any type of gift, Teen Feed asks that you drop it off by December 9th.  All gifts can be dropped off at University Congregational Church, 4515 16th Ave. NE, Seattle on either of
the following dates:

  • Tuesday, December 7, from 6 to 9 pm
  • Thursday, December 9, from 1 to 5 pm

If those hours are inconvenient, of if you would simply like to make a donation at any time during this holiday season, please email secretsanta@teenfeed.org and Teen Feed will make arrangements with you.
